International Friends of Morelia
International Friends of Morelia
The International Friends of Morelia collects 10 pesos from each person at each meeting.  The fund that is being created is for special projects at the orphanage.  Right now we are collecting for solar heating system for hot water for the kids' showers.  In addition different people volunteer their time to pick up food and other items donated each week by Costco and Sam's Club.  Others take the kids on outings (especially during summer vacation) or work on the computer network.  Some read to the kids or help them with their homework.  The ages of the children range from toddlers to 20.  Most of the staff are former residents.  A few months ago the staff and children organized a thank-you program for club members.  They did recitations, singing, and dancing.  It was fantastic.
Afterwards they treated all the Friends to a simple supper.
International Friends of Morelia
The core of the group have been in Morelia five years or more, but the group is made up of
anyone who lives full or part-time in Morelia.  Visitors are welcome.

A few are Mexicans. Some are snowbirds so the number of folks that show up each week varies. It is very informal.

The group provides a home base for newcomers and for those doing fact finding while offering a chance to do volunteer work by helping out a local orphanage, Casa de Hogar .

The group meets every Wednesday at Club Campestre at 5:00.  It's 2 miles east of Fiesta Inn on Camelinas (just before Sears).  Turn right on Campestre Av. And go ½ mile to parking lot.  Cross footbridge and then turn left to the dining areaCall Larry at 340-1045 if you have questions.
