9th Morelia International Film Festival October 15-23, 2011
The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) emerged as a need to create a unique meeting point in Mexico for the cinematographic community, the people of Michoacán, and international filmmakers. FICM started in 2003 with the goal of establishing a forum to promote up-and-coming Mexican cinema talents, to create incentives and cultural opportunities for the Mexican and international public, and to display the cultural richness of the state of Michoacán.

Festival of the Sphere
Tlalpujahua, Michoacan, a Pueblo Magico continuing through December 16, 2012. .
In Tlalpujahua, there are approximately 150 workshops where crafts are produced. Sixty percent of this craft is exported to different countries, including European and South American, but mostly to the United States and Canada.
The exhibition is at the Municipal Auditorium and is open from 10am to 7pm. There are various cultural activities included in the exhibition.

Festival of Candles
5th annual Festival of Candles in Uruapan October 27, through November 2, 2012
Uruapan celebrates the Day of the Dead. During this festival will light 20,000 candles in the historic center, in 3 places and 8 blocks, the first of November.

Mariachi and Mexican Traditions Festival
The Festival del Mariachi y Tradiciones Mexicanas takes place in Morelia, about the same dates of the Independence Day celebrations in September. The best mariachi band in Morelia and some bands from other states as well as guest singers are invited to this festival. In 2011 Shaila Durcal and Jose Cardenas were the special singers. They perform in the Plaza de Armas (Main Square) and other venues in downtown.
World Cultural Tourism Fair
The third edition of this event will be held September 27th to 30th. The Feria Mundial de Turismo Cultural is an international event. It is a direct channel to buy & sale tourism services. It is also a marketing venue for the various companies that have a unique opportunity to create joint ventures to benefit the cultural tourism.
National Orchid Festival
The Festival Nacional de la Orquídea promotes preservation of species and their habitat. It also promotes conservation and development of awareness through books and informative articles. It usually takes place at Casa de la Cultura de Morelia.
International Organ Festival
The Festival Internacional de Organo de Morelia has been carried out for 45 years during the month of October at Morelia´s Cathedral. There is a monumental organ (wind instrument) that dates back to 1905. This festival is named after its founder Alfonso Vega Nuñez, who was concert organist, Governor of the Michoacan State and promoter of the Organ Festivals founded in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Guatemala.
Morelia´s Music Festival
The XXIV edition of the Festival de Música de Morelia “Miguel Bernal Jimenez” will be held November 16th to 25th in the city of Morelia. The first edition of this festival was done in July 1989. Its objective has always been the promotion and improvement of music teaching in our country and to boost the musical education at Conservatorio de las Rosas in Morelia.
Michoacan gets busy September through January each year. They are full of activities like festivals, fairs, exhibitions and traditional celebrations. Some of them have been produced once a year for decades. Here is an overview of the most important:
Day of the Dead Celebration
UNESCO has declared the holiday “Day of the Dead” as a World Cultural Heritage. The origins of these celebrations go far back of the Spanish conquest and some historians say they are 3000 years old. The traditions of Night of the Dead are the fusion of two cultures: Spanish and Indian. In Mexico, unlike other cultures, the dead have a space and a day for them; we perform a ritual in which the live and the dead coexist. The official days are November 1st and 2nd but celebrations start usually in October and ends up several days later.
International Film Festival in Morelia
The tenth edition of Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (International Film Festival in Morelia) will be held November 3 to 11, 2012. The Festival was founded in 2003. It has the mission to promote new Mexican cinema´s proposals in the city of Morelia as its main stage.
The fifth edition of the Morbido Festival will be held from November 15 to 18, 2012, in Patzcuaro.
Morbido originated five years ago in Tlapujahua, during Dia day Muertos.
The dates and venue have changed to the magical town of Patzcuaro.
